Winter 2003

Sunday, March 23rd

This weekend and last I got some good biking in. The mountain biking trails at John Muir haven't opened yet, so we've been going to the Oak Leaf bike trail that winds through Milwaukee's county park system. It feels good to be outside and active. I have a bad feeling that the good weather we've been having is going to disappear for another two months, but maybe we'll get lucky. We're getting some firm plans made up for our trip to Utah this June. I think it's going to be a blast. We're taking bikes and camping at Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks. I'm pretty excited, but I've got some bike supplies to get, not to mention some practice to get in before we go.

Monday, March 3rd

I got a couple of things done about the house. Shelving is going up in the basement, new cabinetry in the kitchen, and new lighting installed. I've got a lot to do yet, but it's coming along. My Dad came up and saw the place last week, which was cool. We even went to the dive bar and shot a couple rounds of pool. Work is nominal. I got my review and in a week or two I'll find out my raise and bonus, which I'm looking forward to. I'm also starting a silly project called life log where I'll make a record of the things I do in a day, so in time I can look back and see what I spend time on, what I spend money on, how much I sleep, how often I eat frozen pizza...silly statistics, really. Finally, it looks like I'll be going to Las Vegas again this year in April. I'm looking forward to that. I need a break.

Jeff came into town and paid us a visit. We spent some time playing Axis & Allies...well ok, a lot of time. The game went on for eleven hours. We played some pool at the dive bar (Now with more holes in the ceiling!) and he and I went to the Chicago Auto Show on Sunday. That was fun. I got to touch a Mazda RX-8, I punched a Hyundai concept of what uglier-than-rotting-hell-distilled-into-vehichle-form looks like. Then we went to Ed Debevik's. Hopefully it won't be as long before we see him again.

Let's see. What have I been up to? Mike and I have been working on our online To Do system, which will hopefully lend itself to getting things done. It still needs work, but it is shaping up nicely. We had a LAN party this weekend, which has been too long in the making. We had some snags, but that's what LAN parties are all about. I am taking part in an odd little video project playing an air cello, and I got to spend Sunday morning at work installing new software on 300 computers. Most importantly, I went out with a delightful girl named Becky that I met at the old hangout, Judy's. I'm looking forward to seeing her again soon.

The holidays have passed. I visited my sister and her family in Minnesota. My other sister, her husband, and my mom also made the trip from Indiana. Unlike last year, I managed to evade the contagions floating about, so I had a good time both there and afterwards. New Years was held at Mike's, where Eriq made an incredible entrance with seconds to spare, and since then I've been getting a couple small projects done around the house, and getting a handle on work. Wow, that was a long sentence. Anyway, that's all worth reporting.
